Giving Thanks This Holiday Season

Nov 13, 2019

We all have so much to be thankful for this holiday season. Helping in ways both big and small is a great, rewarding way to spread holiday cheer and give back the love to our wonderful community. Keep reading for a list of ways to get involved!

Whether by yourself or with family, friends, co-workers or neighbors, volunteering is a fantastic way to directly make a difference. No matter what your skills are, there is a perfect way to get involved!

Where to Volunteer

Moveable Feast

With Moveable Feast, you can be part of an incredible project that provides meals to people suffering from life-threatening illnesses. You can serve as a kitchen assistant, a delivery driver or even a dietician assistant or gardener. Believe in Tomorrow at Johns Hopkins provides housing for families, and has a wide range of ways to get involved. Help with everything from housekeeping and cookie baking to corporate team building.

My Sister’s Place

My Sister’s Place is another great organization. Based in DC, their team helps victims and survivors of domestic violence. They offer a hotline, an emergency shelter, education programs and more, so there are plenty of ways to get involved. They are also looking for volunteers at the Women’s Center , located in Baltimore, that is a resource center for women experiencing homelessness. The Weinberg Housing and Resource Center also aids people facing homelessness, open 24/7 to 275 residents.

United Way of Central Maryland

The UWCM’s Holiday Helpers  runs a gift drive every year, collecting toys and other items for families in United Way programs. You can also be a part of Adopt-A-Family, which matches you with a family in need and shop for items on their wish list. Santa’s Helpers Anonymous  is another great way to help families celebrate the holidays. As a volunteer, you can wrap gifts, cook turkeys and use your “sleigh” to help deliver the treats to families in the Baltimore area.

Give Back by Going Out!

Another way to give back is to attend an event for the cause. You’ll have a fun night out and feel good knowing you’re helping out at the same time. There is plenty to see and do this holiday season around the city.

Hops & Vines

Let your inner child have some fun at Hops & Vines  at Port Discovery Children’s Museum! The event raises money for the museum’s access programs that help students and families get reduced admission to Port Discovery.

Cocktails for a Cause

Another great way to put your night out towards a good purpose is Cocktails for a Cause. On November 14th, Happy Hour at Pen & Quill will donate funds to Planned Parenthood.

Drag Queen Bingo

You can also B-I-N-G-O for a cause! On November 14th, Points South Latin Kitchen will be hosting Drag Queen Bingo to raise money for the Joshua York Legacy, benefiting mental health outreach for high risk groups.

Rocking for the Kids

Enjoy a full weekend of live music at Rocking for the Kids, hosted at the Waterfront Hotel Bar. They are raising money for Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital to help children and their families around the holidays. You can also enjoy some live performances at the 6th Annual Friendsgiving Waltz Toy Drive, this time featuring songs from The Band.

Giving Tuesday

On World AIDS Day, December 3rd, head over to the Hotel Revival for a Giving Tuesday benefit event, featuring raffles, drinks, karaoke, and more while raising awareness for this important cause.

From our Anthem House family to yours, we hope you have a very happy holiday season. Be sure to share photos of how you #LiveYourAnthem with thanks by tagging us on social media.
