Summer in Baltimore: The Anthem Way

Jun 16, 2023

The summer solstice, on Wednesday, June 21, is the time of year when the northern hemisphere enters the summer season. The hot days are perfect for taking a dip in the pool or grabbing a nice refreshing ice cream. If you’re not sure how to spend your free days, there are plenty of ways to enjoy your summer days here in Baltimore.

Snowballs in Summer

Quality Snowballs was established in 2019 in Hampden and offers unique toppings and flavors that are sure to remain with you for the rest of the season. Be sure to try the toasted marshmallow topping for a unique twist on the classic treat.

A brand new place to get snowballs in Baltimore is Crushed Velvet in Federal Hill. Grab a treat topped with their homemade syrup, a horchata, or even a frozen treat for your pup!

Get Crabby

Considered to serve some of Baltimore’s best steamed crabs, LP Steamers in Locust Point is guaranteed to wow your tastebuds. Don’t hold yourself back when ordering crabs, their sizes range from small to ginormous! Get there early to secure a spot on their coveted rooftop deck.

The ship-shaped restaurant, Captain James, serves crabs all year round, but they’re perfect to pair with the warm summer atmosphere. Here, you can find crabs under almost every category on the menu, so you have plenty of options to choose from. Check out their crab deck across from the restaurant to enjoy waterfront views.

Don’t Scream, There’s Still Ice Cream

Bmore Licks in Federal Hill and Canton is the home of some of Baltimore’s best ice cream. This summer, try flavors such as Cookie Monster, Cherry Chocolate Chunk, or Strawberry Rhubarb. If your anticipated flavor isn’t on the menu one day, be sure to come back, because their menu rotates!

For handcrafted flavors, check out The Charmery in Hampden. Grab regular cones or pints of your favorite flavors, or try something uniquely Maryland, like their Old Bay Caramel. If that isn’t enough to satisfy your taste buds, check out their Birthday Cake Ice Cream Pie.

See the Orioles in Action

This summer, be sure to watch some baseball at Camden Yards to see the Orioles in action. Nothing beats the heat like a refreshing lemonade at the stadium!

Try Out Beach Volleyball

Baltimore Beach is one of the best attractions in the city for the summer, right in Federal Hill. Check out Rash Field, the perfect place to start playing beach volleyball, whether you’re just starting out or an expert. You can sign-up for drop-in games, or join a league!

Another good spot with a beach volleyball court is The Park over in Canton. This is a new spot in the city, one where you can enjoy an active life with a bar right on site. There’s even an option to try pickleball!

Quench Your Thirst

For a relaxing view of Baltimore’s Inner Harbor and perfect nightlife atmosphere, check out Ouzo Beach in Harbor East. You can enjoy live music and a waterfront view while sipping seasonal drinks and basking in the Mediterranean vibe.

For over 20 years, Little Havana in Federal Hill has been serving good Cuban-inspired food and drinks. This restaurant serves brunch on the weekends and is a favorite spot for events year-round. Be sure to snag a spot on their waterfront patio and grab one of their classic mojitos.

Another great restaurant on the waterfront is the Bayside Cantina in Canton. With some good Mexican food and waterfront views, you can wind down with a refreshing drink.

The Season for Swimming

Now’s the time of year when all the pools are open for everyone to enjoy. The closest pool is of course the on-site pool at Anthem House. One of the many amenities at Anthem, the location is only one of the reasons why it’s a great place to relax. If you want to mix it up, check out these other city pools for some summer fun:

The Swim Club at Canton is another great place to go swimming this summer. Memberships can be purchased as singles, for couples, or for the entire family. They are open seven days a week up until September from ten in the morning to eight at night. There are also plenty of special one-day events to check out.

One spot that you may not think of to check out is the Four Seasons infinity pool in Harbor East. With a poolside bar and grill, this place is the one to be for good food, drinks, waterfront views, and a chance to cool down from the summer heat. The pool also has pilates classes that are open to guests and the public on selected days.

Another poolside bar and grill in Baltimore is over at Pendry in Fells Point. This open air spot gives a wide view of the waterfront, with a selection of seasonal beverages available at the bar. There are also six private cabanas to check out if you enjoy lounging in privacy.

A Solstice Celebration

The Science Center in the Inner Harbor is hosting their own event to mark the coming of the Summer Solstice. This is an opportunity to dress up in some nice clothes and explore the exhibits of the museum while enjoying live music from The Adrian Duke Project and DJ Rob Macy.
