Exploring Nearby Destinations this Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day is a day of remembrance that occurs on May 29th, honoring and mourning U.S. military personnel who have died during service or from injuries sustained during battle. As a National Holiday, most individuals have an extended weekend for the holiday. If you are looking for something to keep you occupied during the long weekend, check out some of these destinations, all not too far from your home here at Anthem House. 

Cape Charles Beach

Located roughly 4 hours from Baltimore, Cape Charles Beach is the perfect getaway. You can spend most of your time at the beach, which has shallow waters and no waves. There are also tons of other activities to do, including tennis, golf, and a park. Cape Charles also offers many shops for souvenirs, art from local artists, and more. With so much to do, your weekend will be busy with fun activities all weekend long. 

Ocean City, MD

Just a three hour drive from Baltimore, Ocean City is full of fun activities and beautiful views to help you enjoy your weekend. Ocean City’s boardwalk features all classic boardwalk favorites, including a few amusement rides for all ages. If you want something a little more adventurous, check out fun activities, like tandem skydiving, jet skiing, and more. On top of other tasty restaurants and fun casinos, Ocean City has a never ending list of things to do that will prevent any boredom during Memorial Day weekend. 

Rehoboth Beach

In Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, you can enjoy tons of beach activities and tax-free shopping only two and a half hours from Baltimore. Soak up the sun by spending some time on the beaches and extensive boardwalk, where you can take advantage of the tasty finds. If you want to take advantage of the tax free shopping, head down to the “mile of style” at the Tanger Outlets that offer more than 100 brand name shops for you to spend your weekend shopping ‘til you drop. 

Lancaster

Lancaster is known as Amish Country, where many Amish individuals live and work in America’s oldest Amish settlement. Only two and a half hours from Baltimore, Lancaster is a great option to unwind and slow down for a mini vacation. Enjoy calm buggy rides to the Amish Village, where you can learn more about the Amish way of life. The Amish are also notorious for their mouth-watering PA Dutch cooking, so check out one of their local restaurants or bakeries for the best tasting food of your life. In Lancaster, you will learn about the Amish community and their history, while also making your vacation a more peaceful and relaxing experience. Deep Creek
Deep Creek Lake is only a short hour and a half drive from the heart of Baltimore, making it a short trip for Memorial Day weekend. With 3,900 acres, there are tons of fun activities for family and friends to participate in. Take advantage of the lake by boating, fishing, kayaking, swimming, and more! Boat rentals are also available for rent so you can have the opportunity to try multiple activities. Berkeley Springs

Since 1776, Berkeley Springs has been a popular place for relaxation, with its natural warm springs and artistic culture. Only a two hour drive from the Baltimore area, Berkeley Springs is a quick getaway that offers unique experiences. Hike through the various forests and mountains surrounding the Springs and let nature rejuvenate you. You can also check out the art scene in Berkeley Springs by checking out their local galleries and theaters for events that are engaging and refreshing to see. 

Harpers Ferry

Fans of history will enjoy checking out the historic district of Harpers Ferry, a National Historic Park located a convenient 90 minutes outside of Baltimore. Dated back to the Civil War Era, you can experience the location where John Brown’s Raid occurred among other historical significant events. The area is surrounded by the stunning Blue Ridge Mountains and the waters of the Shenendoah and Potomac rivers, giving you stunning views that you can stare at in awe.
