National Dog Day, the Baltimore Way

Aug 17, 2022

National Dog Day is on August 26 and is a holiday founded by Colleen Paige, an animal rescue advocate and conservationist. The day is meant to celebrate all dog breeds and to bring attention to the number of dogs that need rescuing each year.

Anthem House is a dog-friendly property, so we welcome residents and their four-legged friends and offer amenities for canine care, such as a pet washing station and Dog Run. There are several places to celebrate National Dog Day in Baltimore, whether you want to buy treats or toys or bring your dog somewhere special, keep reading to learn the best ways to celebrate National Dog Day in Baltimore.

Doggie Hangout

Would you like your dog to meet new friends? Looking for a place with a menu for dogs and people? Bark Social is a dog social club by Brewer’s Hill that offers a place for dog people and dogs to meet and socialize. This spot is a great place to hang out with your pup and often has events that can be enjoyed by dogs and humans.

Over in Fells Point is Heart and Paw, a veterinarian with a low-stress environment meant to give your pets as calming a vet experience as possible. They offer veterinary services and professional grooming stylists, but also play rooms for dogs to release their energy before appointments.

Dog parks are the classic location for your pets to socialize and enjoy the outdoors. Luckily in Baltimore, there are plenty of dog parks to choose from. In Highlandtown, you’ll find Patterson Dog Park, an off-leash dog park with separate sections for small and large dogs, as well as walking trails for you both. The Canton Dog Park also has separate sections for sizes and a water fountain for dogs to use. The Locust Point Dog Park does not have separate sections for size, but they have reserved times for small and senior dogs and a water slide for dogs to enjoy. Locust Point is also the closest dog park to Anthem, so take advantage of this nearby doggie attraction!

Doggie Daycare

The Downtown Dog Resort is a dog resort and spa meant to provide the best luxury for your pets. Offering both boarding and daycare, they focus on the comfort of pets and the fun atmosphere with their professional staff. The daycare is an activity-packed schedule with eating and play time, including some well-needed nap time. Boarding options are also vast, including the option to bring in your dog’s own toys, food, and bedding.

Toys and Treats

Looking to get something new for your pet? Happy Dog Baltimore is a dog boutique that aims to provide a nurturing environment for dogs. Along with their care services, such as grooming and pet sitting, they sell many items such as leashes, treats, and shampoo.

Howl is a pet supply store in Hampden that also offers many goods meant for dogs, featuring natural and ethically sourced goods. They also have a special occasion section for events, such as your dog’s birthday.

Have a Doggone Good Day

At Anthem House, we hope you enjoy spoiling your pup on National Dog Day, and every day!
