Nearby Getaways for Memorial Day Weekend

May 18, 2021

It’s not every day that we take some time to remember the brave men and women who have died in service to our country. This Memorial Day, let’s commemorate and celebrate our courageous service members.

Americans celebrate Memorial Day, originally known as Decoration Day, annually on the last Monday of May (this year it will occur on May 31st). The tradition originated in the late 1860s as a day of observance for victims of the Civil War. Today, Americans honor all fallen military personnel on this federal holiday with a range of different events and activities — parades, cemetery and memorial visits, and celebrations that bring families and friends together.

And don’t forget that Memorial Day provides us with a three-day weekend to travel, explore, and celebrate.
