Enjoy A Safe Getaway This Labor Day Weekend

Aug 28, 2020

Labor Day Weekend is coming up soon! Since we’ve all been stuck at home more than usual, you might be looking to get away and explore somewhere new. Even though celebrations might be a bit different this year, there are still plenty of great activities and destinations that you can enjoy in a safe and socially distant way, not too far from your home at Anthem House.

Soak In Small-Town Charm

Small-town warmth awaits you in Rock Hall, Maryland, and it’s only an hour and a half away by car. Rock Hall is an artist’s paradise, full of beautiful galleries, music halls, museums and more. After a day of exploring manmade artwork, sit back and enjoy nature’s best painting: the sunset! Waterman’s Crab House is open for outdoor dining, and their patio has a fantastic sunset view over the Chesapeake.

Lancaster is another great option for a getaway and change of pace. Many of their restaurants, attractions and lodging destinations are now reopening with enhanced safety protocols. You can learn about the experience and history of the Pennsylvania Amish community, explore local breweries and eateries, and even go for a hot air balloon ride!

Beautiful Coastal Towns

If you’d prefer to run on island time, Solomon’s Island is the place to be! This quaint island town in southern Maryland is home to lots of great places to eat and things to do. You can get a true dockbar experience at The Lighthouse Restaurant and Dockbar, which is known for a fantastic selection of seafood, sandwiches and salads. You can also brush up on your history at the Calvert Marine Museum and learn more about local marine ecosystems at the Chesapeake Biological Laboratory.

St. Michaels is another beautiful coastal Maryland town, named as one of the Top 10 Best Small Coastal Towns in America by USA Today! There are, of course, beautiful harbor views, but St. Michaels also boasts exceptional restaurants and places to stay. Restaurants are open for inside, outside and carry-out dining, following all social distancing protocols. For Labor Day Weekend, you can stay in one of the many bed & breakfasts right in town, like the Oaks Waterfront Inn.

Go Wild at National Parks

Trade in the city life for a weekend and get in touch with nature by visiting a National Park, like Shenandoah National Park! Shenandoah is currently in phase three of reopening, so most amenities are open for visitor use while following social distancing protocols. Campgrounds are open, just be sure to make a reservation first. The park is home to over 500 miles of spectacular hiking trails, picnic areas, and of course, lots of scenic views and wildlife.

Harpers Ferry is another beautiful national park within driving distance of Anthem House, just over an hour away. It’s the perfect destination for history buffs and nature-lovers alike, with a fascinating heritage and beautiful natural scenery. There are plenty of park trails and hikes, including a section of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail.

Relax Lakeside

Deep Creek is a beautiful lakeside town, nestled among the peaceful mountains in western Maryland. It’s just under a 3-hour drive from your apartment, but it feels like a world away. There are plenty of fun activities for an afternoon on the lake, like paddleboarding, but Deep Creek is also just a great place to spend some quiet time in nature. What better way to unwind than enjoying your morning coffee with a beautiful lakefront view!

Whether you celebrate from home or go for an adventure, we hope you have a fun and safe Labor Day Weekend! Be sure to share photos of you living your Anthem with us on social media, @AnthemHouseApts.
