Opt Outside This Winter With Cool Outdoor Events!

Dec 13, 2019

Just because it’s winter, doesn’t mean you have to stay indoors. No matter how cozy your Anthem House apartment may be, it’s great to spend some time outdoors during the chilly season. Get a breath of fresh air and help beat the winter blues by checking out some of Baltimore’s outdoor, cold-weather fun activities and special events. Just make sure to bundle up! Keep reading to learn some of the fun ways to opt outside this year with this helpful guide.

Winter Wonderlands in the City

Baltimore’s Recreation and Parks and Charm City Junction are teaming up to host a Woodsy Winter Wonderland at the Cylburn Arboretum on December 14th. Try your hand at ax throwing, show off your best moves during square dancing, and enjoy plenty of food and spirits.

Celebrate the official start of the winter season at the Druid Hill Winter Solstice Celebration, hosted at Rawlings Conservatory & Botanical Gardens. There will be a roaring fire, marshmallow roasting, hay rides, and music. To warm up, you can go inside the toasty conservatory for a display of beautiful Poinsettias, and enjoy hot chocolate and other refreshments.

Waffles, bratwurst, and mulled wine, oh my! Have you ever been to an authentic German Christmas market? The Baltimore Christmas Village is a perfect opportunity for a unique and festive experience, right in your own backyard. Do some shopping at local and international vendors, check out live performances, and take in plenty of stunning Christmas decorations. The market runs every day through Christmas Eve.

For an extra dose of holiday cheer, stop by 34th Street in Hampden. This will be the 74th consecutive year that this iconic street will be completely lit up in gorgeous holiday lights. Many households participate in putting up a dazzling light display sure to amaze.

Have An Ice Day

Soak in views of the skyline and the Inner Harbor with an outdoor rooftop skating rink at the Four Seasons’ beautiful Harbor Terrace. They will be open every Friday-Sunday from 2-7pm through January 5th. Plus, you can rent complimentary skates there.

There is another rink located at the Inner Harbor with a great view of the water. After a chilly spin around the ice, you can warm up by the fire at the cozy Penguin Pad, or head to Tír na nÓg Irish Bar & Grill for a rink visitor-exclusive discount.

Stay Active

The Brooks Ugly Sweater Christmas Fun Run is a great way to get into the holiday spirit and into shape! There will be prizes for the best ugly sweaters, so make sure to bring your A-game.

You can also join in the December Bike Party Ride for another way to enjoy some time outdoors in an equally festive and active way.
